Behaviour Modification Process for Human Directed Aggression

Dogs may develop aggression for a variety of reasons. As behaviourists its our job to discover what the underlying motivations and emotions behind the behaviour so we can then address the root cause.

Aggression is a form of communication to your dog…….they are trying to tell somebody something! We need to listen and help them feel better about the situation and help them find an alternative way to communicating this.

You can never guarantee a dog won’t bite, our job is to try a minimise the chances of this ocuring as much as possible via careful management and training!

Often these problems are excessive versions of normal dog behaviour. Therefore, it is our job to help you get this behaviour back under control so it presents itself in a more manageable and appropriate way!

To help with this behaviour problem we will assess your dog via the following process:

Step 1

  • Book part 1 of the behaviour assessment in with Natalie (Head Behaviourist, qualified to Masters degree level)

  • Upon booking you will receive a booking email with a behaviour questionnaire to fill in and a form for your vet to sign to help us gather as much history about your dog and their behaviour as possible prior to your session.

    • We work alongside your vets to ensure that if we feel anything medical could be exacerbating the problem we can get you the full help you need.

  • Part 1 will involve an 1 hour video call with Natalie

  • During this call she will ask you further questions about your dog and your home enviornment and go through the vital first steps of your training programme; which is all about implementing safety measures.

    • This may include things like muzzle training, setting up barriers/baby gates within your home, teaching your dog an initial behaviour or getting them accustomed to a new routine.

    • A summary of this will be written up in an email for you after the session

Step 2

  • Once you have implemented the safety measures in part 1 Natalie will arrange a date with you to meet her at her secure training field in Keelby.

  • This session will last for 1 hour

  • The initial meet is done on neutral territory so Natalie can assess your dog’s behaviour towards her in a safe environement and remove the element of being territorial within the home.

  • Getting a relationship between your dog and Natalie is essential for the success of your training programme.

  • After this session, Natalie will provide you with some training she would like you to implement going forward and will advise on the next steps.

Part 1 and 2 will be £250 in total. This can be split into 2 payments.

Step 3

After part 2 has been conducted, Natalie may then suggest a follow up session at the field or at your home depending on what your dog will be ready for.

Natalie’s last job is to advise what you do going forward and give you an approximate prognosis (how long we think it may take to get to a certain goal).

You will likely need multiple follow up sessions as aggression cases can be quite complex and its important we make your dog as safe as possible. Natalie will advise on which package would be best suited but please be prepared for her to suggest the platinum package.

Follow up sessions are done in packages.
